Creating a Moving Timeline

If you are planning a move in the next few months you likely will start getting ready well in advance of the big day. Creating a realistic plan can help you stay stress-free and organized.

Here are some tips for what to include.

Months Before
Far in advance of moving day you will want to book your professional movers here at Access Gentle Moving. You also will want to begin going through your stuff to sort into keep, donate, and trash piles. Anything you don’t use should be given away or thrown out to help you start over with as little clutter as possible. If you plan to host a garage sale, this is also a great way to organize and make money at the same time.

It is also a great idea to plan out where your furniture will be going to make sure it will fit in your new space. Sell or donate anything you won’t be able to take with you.

Purchase moving boxes and tape to start packing items you won’t need. This includes seasonal decor and items. (I.e. winter gloves and hats or coats etc.)

Weeks Before
If you are packing up yourself, pack boxes with items that are similar and make sure to label the room and include a description of the items. I.e. Linen closet- towels

If you are overwhelmed by packing, we offer a packing service and we can do it all for you.

Cancel services such as utilities, internet, newspaper, lawn care etc. Get everything ready for these services in your new residence.

Finish up any last minute cleaning projects. Keep a small supply of any cleaning items you will need for moving day- broom, cleaning products, vacuum, paper towels etc.

Mail in your change of address form and set up mail forwarding if you want it. Change your address on bank accounts, bills, and any other important accounts.

Remove wall art and repaint or patch up the walls.

Use as much food in your freezer and fridge.

Pack a box with things you will need the day of the move or any important personal items or documents.
